This painting was composed in the winter when the only foliage to be found was some rose hips and a few straggling rose buds that had braved the first frost. As I added interesting objects to the composition, I saw that a theme had emerged. The theme coincided with thoughts that had been swirling around my brain about how quickly life seems to be passing. The clock, candle, and child's shoe are all reminders of time ticking by. Yet, in the midst of it all, there is hope,the gift of life. Hope is symbolized by the lit candle.

Hope Amid Thorns
I paint with high-quality archival Liquitex acrylics on canvas. I use a limited palette consisting of a warm and cool hue of each of the primary colors (red, yellow, and blue) and Titanium White. There are endless variations of color that can be mixed when using these pure pigments. Paintings on this site come framed. Some have antique frames, and some are vintage style. There is an occasional vintage hardwood finished frame, which can be viewed clearly in the photo.
